Sandhill Cranes are very large, tall birds with long necks, legs, and broad wings and therefore not apt to be described as dainty. And, yet, at the hands of the artists at Herend, these gregarious birds take on a feminine quality. Like a lady of the Victorian era, the Sandhill Crane is defined by its drooping feathers that form a bustle over the tail area which the artists have painted in such an elegant, exquisite manner that the feathers appear almost flower-like. Known for living in family groups most of the year, the sweet, maternal vignette of the crane with two of its young completes this very charming figurine.
